Introduction:
Diphenhydramine hydrochloride is an antihistamine drug having the chemical name 2-(Diphenylmethoxy)- N,N-dimethylethylamine hydrochloride. It occurs as a white, crystalline powder, is freely soluble in water and alcohol and has a molecular weight of 291.82.
Diphenhydramine hydrochloride in the parenteral form is a sterile, pyrogen-free solution available in a concentration of 50 mg of diphenhydramine hydrochloride per mL.

Functions

Diphenhydramine hydrochloride is mainly used for: allergies of the skin and mucous membranes, such as urticaria, angioneurotic oedema, allergic rhinitis, pruritus, drug rash, also effective against insect bites and contact dermatitis; prevention and treatment of motion sickness with strong antiemetic effects; Parkinson's disease and extrapyramidal symptoms; sedation, hypnosis; strengthening the action of cough suppressants, indicated for the treatment of coughs due to colds or allergies.
