Sesquiterpene is a lignan isolated from the peppercorn plant and sesame oil. It has been used as a dietary supplement for weight loss, although no such controlled studies have been conducted. The main metabolite of sesquiterpenes is enterolactone, which has an elimination half-life of less than 6 hours. Both sesamin and sesamolin are trace constituents of sesame oil, averaging only 0.14% of the mass of sesame oil.
